Forklift rental cost in San Luis Potosí: daily rates and what to ask

"Ser operados únicamente por personal capacitado y autorizado por el patrón." That line, numeral 8.5.2 a) of NOM-006-STPS-2023, Mexico's standard for handling materials with machinery, says forklifts may be operated only by personnel trained and authorized by the employer. For a plant manager comparing forklift rental cost in San Luis Potosí, it is the clause that decides who can drive the truck on the morning it reaches your dock. The daily rate is the easy part, and it comes first.

Forklift rental cost in San Luis Potosí, per day

SIISA Consultores publishes these starting rates for plants in San Luis Potosí, Soledad, Villa de Reyes and the industrial zone. They are per day, in Mexican pesos, as of October 2026:

  • 1.5-ton forklift: from MXN 2,800 per day.
  • 7-ton forklift: from MXN 5,200 per day.
  • Delivery (flete): quoted separately, from MXN 1,200.

All three are before IVA, Mexico's value-added tax. The IVA law (Ley del Impuesto al Valor Agregado, art. 1) sets it at 16% and applies it to the temporary use of goods, so rentals carry it as a separate line on the invoice. Unit details are on the forklift rental page for San Luis Potosí.

The 7-ton truck costs MXN 2,400 a day more than the 1.5-ton. Size the request by the heaviest load in the job and the height where it goes. A forklift's rated capacity drops as the load rises or as its center moves away from the mast, and the manufacturer's load chart says by how much. NOM-006-STPS-2023 (8.5.2 d) requires making sure the maximum load on the manufacturer's plate is never exceeded. Rent for the heaviest lift in the job at its working height, and let the load chart settle the size.

Why don't San Luis Potosí rental firms post rates?

If your US sites rent from national chains with rate cards online, San Luis Potosí (SLP) will feel different. A market study prepared for SIISA Consultores in September 2026 reviewed the websites of the rental companies that rank on Google for forklift rental in the state and found no SLP-based supplier publishing its rate as text. When the same study asked ChatGPT where to rent a forklift in SLP and what it costs per day, the answer had to cite a services portal, because no local rental company had a written price (test run on October 1, 2026).

Buyers do search for it. Advertisers pay MXN 20 to 91 per click for the Spanish search "renta de montacargas" (Google Ads Keyword Planner, September 2025 to August 2026). The price still arrives by WhatsApp, one quote at a time, in whatever format each supplier prefers. Expect to build the comparison yourself, so ask every supplier for the same line items in writing.

What should a forklift rental quote spell out?

Send this list with the request for quote. At SIISA, delivery is quoted separately; everything else is worth confirming in writing with any supplier before the purchase order goes out.

  • Operator. Does the truck come with a driver, or will your people run it? If a driver comes, ask for his or her DC-3, Mexico's official training record, before the first lift.
  • Fuel or charging. LP gas, diesel or electric? Who supplies fuel, and where will the batteries charge? NOM-006-STPS-2023 (8.5.2 i) requires refueling and battery changes in a ventilated area with fire emergency equipment on hand.
  • Delivery. The price to drop off and pick up, and whether it changes between the city industrial zone and Villa de Reyes.
  • Insurance and damage. Is the unit insured, and who pays for a bent mast, a tire or a damaged rack?
  • Deposit. Is one required, and when does it come back?
  • Delivery window. Arrival and pickup times, and whether a rental day means 24 hours or one shift.
  • Breakdowns. How fast a replacement unit reaches the site if the truck fails mid-shift.
  • Invoice. A CFDI, Mexico's electronic tax invoice, issued to your legal entity with IVA itemized.

Who can drive a rented forklift in a Mexican plant?

NOM-006-STPS-2023 was published in the DOF (Diario Oficial de la Federación, Mexico's official gazette) on March 7, 2024 and replaced NOM-006-STPS-2014, now superseded. The STPS, Mexico's federal labor ministry, enforces it. Numeral 8.5.2 a) makes no exception for rented equipment. Whoever supplies the driver, the plant still has to verify that the person on the seat is trained and authorized.

Numeral 10.3 defines that training as theoretical instruction, practical training and an evaluation of knowledge and skills. Numeral 10.4 asks for a refresher at least every two years, or sooner when new machinery or equipment is introduced. If your team runs 1.5-ton trucks every day and the rental is a 7-ton, check whether that earlier refresher applies before the first shift. When the supplier provides the driver, numeral 5.5 asks the employer to supervise that contractors doing this work comply with the standard.

The evidence is the DC-3, the document a worker uses to prove they took and passed a training course under article 153-V of Mexico's Federal Labor Law (LFT). It is delivered within 20 business days of the course (training agreement, DOF June 14, 2013, art. 24). An operator card from one of your US plants is not a DC-3. If your US sites run forklift programs under OSHA, the logic of training plus evaluation will feel familiar, but the Mexican text has its own content, refresher period and paperwork.

Online-only courses raise their own questions, covered in whether online forklift certification holds up in Mexico. The standard is broken down in our guide to Mexico's forklift regulation, NOM-006.

Budgeting the rental against the compliance exposure

The rental is the visible cost. The less visible one is a finding during an STPS inspection. Under article 994, section V of the LFT, failing to observe safety and health standards carries a fine of 250 to 5,000 UMA. The UMA is Mexico's daily unit of measure for fines, MXN 117.31 in 2026 (DOF January 9, 2026), so the range runs from MXN 29,327.50 to MXN 586,550, and article 992 applies it per affected worker. The top of that range would pay for more than 200 days of the 1.5-ton truck at its starting rate. The full math is in how STPS fines work in Mexico.

Training belongs in the same budget line. SIISA's open courses with DC-3 start at MXN 1,500 per person plus IVA (October 2026), and its DC-3 safety training for forklift operators includes practice on the equipment. Book the operator training together with the rental, so the truck and a qualified driver arrive in the same week.

Frequently asked questions

How much does it cost to rent a forklift per day in San Luis Potosí?

At SIISA Consultores, a 1.5-ton forklift starts at MXN 2,800 per day and a 7-ton forklift at MXN 5,200 per day, plus IVA (October 2026 rates). Delivery is quoted separately, starting at MXN 1,200.

Does a forklift rental include the operator, fuel and delivery?

It varies by supplier, so ask for each item in writing before issuing the purchase order. At SIISA, delivery is quoted separately, and operator, fuel or charging, insurance and deposit are set in the quote for each job.

What DC-3 training does the STPS require for forklift operators?

NOM-006-STPS-2023 requires theoretical instruction, practical training and an evaluation of knowledge and skills (numeral 10.3), refreshed at least every two years (numeral 10.4). The DC-3 is the document that proves the worker passed the course, under article 153-V of Mexico's Federal Labor Law.

Is an online DC-3 valid for a forklift operator?

Mexico's forklift standard asks for practical training and a skills evaluation on top of theory (NOM-006-STPS-2023, numeral 10.3). An online-only course cannot provide supervised practice on the truck, so that part has to be covered before the employer authorizes the operator.
